A portable barcode scanner collects and stores information for later download into your computer. Portable
devices usually have a keyboard and screen to input information such as Barcode, Quantity, Location, Serial
Number and other data.

Once the data has been collected the data is usually downloaded into your computer in the form of a text file.
In most cases this is a csv file which can be read by Microsoft Excel, Notepad, Word and other software.

There are three types of Portable Barcode Scanners:
1) Memory Scanner - These small, simple device collect barcodes and download them later.

2) Portable Barcode Scanner - These devices can be programmed to collect many different
fields of data such as barcode, quantity, location serial number and other fields.

3) PDA Barcode Scanner - These Windows devices work with many types of software.
They offer Batch, Bluetooth, Wireless and long range communications options.
